In the early 2000's the FCC banning a Juicy Fruit ad that featured a grudge match between a talking whale and his co-host on a kids show.
It was funny, topical but the FCC was furious, claiming it glamorized violence to children. However, they never turned their judgemental attention on the original jingle.
For those of you who don't remember the 80's commercial, it starts off innocently enough with horny teens doing tricks on skis.
Then all hell breaks loose when they they unveil their time-tested theme song:
"Get your skis shined up, grab a stick of Juicy Fruit,
The taste is gonna move ya!
Take a sniff, pull it oooouut,
The taste it gonna move ya when you pop it in your moooth!
Juicy Fruit, it's gonna move ya,
Chew a stick, it sticks right to ya!
Juice Fruit, the taste, the taste, the taste is gonna mooove yaaa!"
Now really, if fruits whipping out their shined up sticks, sniffing at it, and then popping 'em in your mouth doesn't get the FCC's attention, I have to wonder why scrappy whales get all the hard knocks.
